Very Scary Morning
By sandi | June 24, 2005
Thursday morning I got up and gave The Girls cereal with milk and toast. I have been putting off trying peanut butter for a long time. I went ahead and gave it a shot.
UGGH! Kimmie is either allergic to Fruit Loops or peanut butter. Her eyes started swelling up and she started getting splotches all around her face. I was very afraid. I gave her her rice bag so that she could put it on her eyes. She was not having any other symptoms so I called the doctor.
He said that if her symptoms got worse to go to the ER and if she had respiratory distress to call 911. No kidding! Of course I would call 911. If it hadn’t been so mild I would not even have called them. I wrangled the other two and put everyone in the car. I needed Benadryl and I had none. Kimmie wanted juice and cheese stick so I gave her that and put her in the car to leave.
When I was driving she started looking better and perking up. I never ended up giving her the Benadryl. She felt fine by the time we got home. I am so glad that my baby is doing well. I am going to take the advice of a good friend, Liz, and stock up on all medicines that I currently do not need but may someday. Any suggestions?

Well, you already know about benedryl, tylenol and motrin.
For a well stocked medicine cabinent I would suggest: cortizone cream, neosporin, hydrogen peroxide, rubbin alcohol, solorcain, charcoal, calamine lotion, pepto bismal, glycerin suppositories, chloriseptic, visine…
Ummm, I think that’s all!
What a relief she didn’t have any more serious reactions! How scarey!

epicac…I think that it, it’s suppose to make you throw up. Sometimes it’s good to get what went in out and sometimes it’s better it stays in.
Just make sure that you get stuff that has a far off expiration date and that you check your medicine cabinet periodically & discard the expired meds.
Oh and another thing that I’ve found very helpful is feverall suppositories for a child that has a high fever and can’t keep anything down.

Wow, that is scary. Nut allergies are very serious, I am so glad that Kimmie is ok. Will you do some allergy testing with her to find out if that was what caused it?
I needed Bactine the other day and did not have any. I am going to write the suggestions down and do a little shopping myself. Great idea.

Very scary indeed! I would think it would be the peanut butter. I am so glad she is better now and that it wasn’t a worse reaction.

I gave her fruit loops on Saturday morning and no reaction. I must assume then that it was the peanut butter
I love peanut butter and am sad that it will not be a part of my little Kimmie’s life. Hopefully we can try again after the age of two and she will be okay.
