Happy Cake

Today Kimberly turned 2 so I stayed home from work. You may remember that we bought The Girls a Jump-o-lene for their birthdays; we gave it to them this morning and they loved it. Well, actually, Kimberly loved it—Annie just enjoyed it. (I think it’s because Annie can’t really jump yet and Kimberly can.) Kimmie didn’t want to leave and cried when it was time to go back downstairs. That’s about all you can hope for for a second birthday.
Last night Sandi prepared two video presentations about Kimberly’s first and second years using Apple’s iMovie software. I think she did a spectacular job, but you can judge for yourself: first year, second year. They’re both under 10 megabytes in size and may require QuickTime 7—I think I chose the H.264 codec.
As I watched her creations last night, I reflected on the two years that we’ve had her. She is such a wonderful, interesting little girl. It’s very hard to put into words how I feel about her but she and her sisters have given me a sense of satisfaction that I never could have had without them. When I was miserable at my last job, I could take solace in the fact that there was supreme comfort waiting for me at home. It made things easier to bear.
She can be very trying at times because she’s easily frustrated and often whiny. But these times aren’t enough to counteract the good times. Heck, I even enjoy being woken up at 3 in the morning because she’s cold: I get to go hold her and sway her back to sleep.
I can’t wait to see what achievements and developments occur in this next year of her life. I fully expect that she’ll be able to read at a basic level, count to ten for real, and perhaps start dancing by three. I’m not boasting at all; if anything, I’m being conservative. She has a first-rate and absorbent mind.
