Adventures in cuisine

By sandi | December 5, 2007

Last night we took the kids out to Ethiopian food at Blue Nile Cafe. The kids were not very supportive of the idea since their favorite staple foods, mac and cheese and pancakes are not served there. When we arrived we decided to go with traditional seating. Which I was talking to Bill about how we needed that for our kitchen area. We have never gotten a seating arrangement that we felt would work there. This open floor plan would. ;) We ordered some appetizers that were excellent, although I cannot remember the names of them. (Bill and I are like that at sushi too. We need to write down what we order so we can order it again.)

When the food arrived the kids were really interested in it.
Mimi really liked the beef!
Annie and Kimberly loved the ingera.

We ended the meal with strawberry coffee cake. It was so delicious. It was coffee soaked thin cake or cookie and it was layered with whipped cream and strawberry filling. So delicious!!!

One interesting thing to note is that the kids were not very good at portioning. They can get enough food on a fork when they eat but when they were eating with the ingera they were taking huge bites and having to spit out a lot. It was interesting to me that this happened.

I am glad that the children enjoyed the experience and opened up to it in the end! I know that this would be the hardest experience for me- as you know! :0) I would have to live on granola bars or something as I stayed in Ethiopia- but the Brown family is always up for an adventure! :0)

    Oh Yummmm.

We went once to the restaurant in Tempe. I think I might have to go again.

Glad the girls came around…which I knew they would eventually ;)

I’ve never had Ethiopian food but I love trying different foods so it sounds like great fun! And how wonderful that your children were willing to experiment with it.
