Tv simplified
By sandi | January 1, 2008
We have decided to cancel our subscription to Directv. This was a long drawn out saga but in the end we found out that we really don’t need it. We don’t watch too many shows and those shows we do watch can be seen on the internet or on dvd. We found that we were just watching too many shows that we really didn’t care to see.
We are not going without tv we are just limiting what we will spend our time doing. I know that I would put the tv on during the Girl’s breakfast and then kinda just forget about it. Then I would realize that the kids had been sitting there for an hour watching mindless tv. I completely think mindless tv has a place and I will continue to have those times in our lives, but the kids will have dvds and we will have basic tv channels. We will still have the vsmile and we are still going to do Netflix. Minds need time to zone out, in my opinion.
I know that this will be a big change for us, especially Bill, but it is something that we are committed to doing. It will give us more time to be with our family and I am sure that we won’t regret it.

We have Dish TV and A DVR…I could do without the Satelite, but I really would miss the DVR. It is great to record shows and watch them whenever, skipping through the commercials. I have been thinking about switching to TIVO and a HD Antenna. But…just thinking…not really acting like you have. The new year really has not moved me to take action on much of anything yet…I am hoping I don’t miss the momentum I usually have this time of year … maybe it is just delayed. Well good job on “freeing up some time and some budget too”. (And all your other recent posts full of New Year momentum!!) You are an inspiration!

The HD antenna we bought fit right on our satellite mast and we easily brought down 29 high-def, digital channels for free! And you know where we are! If I had known all that, I would have cancelled our service long ago.
We definitely miss TiVo at this point, but we’re hoping to have something similar to replace it soon.

[...] has been over a month since we have gone with just a antenna on our tv. We had many reasons for doing this and were very interested in how it would pan out. I wanted to write out the reactions of our family [...]
