“Out in the menagerie!” ~ Annie
Annie said this to Kimberly as they were outside playing in the yard. Annie was on one side yard and Kimberly was on the other. Of course I seriously doubt Annie thought she was out in a place where she could keep captive exotic animals. I am [...]

The struggle of a Mother

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Annie is so terribly independent. She thinks she is invincible and is not afraid of much. She thinks she will always land on her feet and can conquer anything. Later in her life, if she makes it there, this will be a huge blessing to her. She will be so strong, [...]

Seeing the world in a different light

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Thanks to Patty the girls had a stack of new videos to watch while Mimi was sick. These were movies that her daughter had outgrown and thought that our girls would like them. She was right. Mimi’s favorite is Balto 2, Annie’s favorite is Air Bud and Kimmie’s favorite is Ice Age. [...]

Healing of the sick

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Mimi is doing better. She no longer has fevers just a persistent headache and a cough. She is sleeping much better through the night and that is a serious blessing.
Annie’s lip is healing. It is not swelled so much this morning. I am continuing to try to get her to realize [...]

Catching a break

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Sometimes I wonder how we never seem to. Today Annie was in the playroom and had the crazy idea that she should stand inside her play shopping cart to reach some stuffed animals instead of asking for help.
As you can guess it didn’t end well. I rushed into the [...]

Madeline’s quilt

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Madeline has seen me working on Salty’s quilt and now seen me working on his knit blanket. They are both blue, as we have never had a boy before so most everything for him has a blue hue. She diligently watches me sew. Helps me get my scissors or pins when I [...]

Sushi at Home

Monday, February 25th, 2008

You may remember that I gave Sandi a sushi cooking class at Sur La Table for Valentine’s Day. Today she made sushi for dinner and I can honestly say it’s the second best $79 I ever spent (the first best, incidentally, was the panini maker we got for my birthday last year). She did a [...]

We’re Broke!

Monday, February 25th, 2008

After a very rough weekend, Madeline’s fever broke today. All last night 102°, 103°, and 104°. But this afternoon it settled down to 99°! She’s still not feeling well, but she’s sleeping and eating better. The poor thing’s had a rough weekend all around.

From the Mind of a Four-Year Old

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

Annie drew this picture while watching Madeline’s dance class and I think it is so touching and indicative of her personality.
I am the main character on the page, overshadowing all—I cut off a lot of hair in scanning this even. Sandi is, well, I’m not really sure. Kimberly, Annie, and Madeline are all happy. Then [...]

Flu has a hold on us

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Yesterday Mimi had a slight fever but was feeling fine otherwise. Last night she spiked fever after fever that Motrin and Tylenol were not able to break. As a result she had 2 minor seizures. This morning I just knew she was going to kept getting sicker and sicker so I made [...]

Giving Miles

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

I’ve been wrestling with an issue lately that I’m pretty sure is pervasive and perennial: where and how to draw appropriate lines for children. The specific case is our bedtime routine. As mentioned previously, I sing songs to each of them and give hugs and kisses every night. Last night, they each wanted “Curbside Prophet” [...]

Living the dream

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Right now I currently wake up around 7ish. Kimberly, the early riser, has been up for a while entertaining herself. Mimi usually crawls into my bed to snuggle about 7 am. Annie wakes up later than everyone else and is so much like me it is kinda funny!
We have been [...]

We are officially pregnant

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Many people are asking how long now and what else do we have to do. Here is the information you all are craving:
We are what is commonly known as paper pregnant. I equate it to fertility treatment. You have so many papers you have to compile and collect just like [...]

Annie’s Puppet Show

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

Today I was doing some cleaning and Annie asked me to come sit down and watch her puppet show. I was really feeling like I should tell her I would do it later so I wouldn’t break my cleaning stride, but I didn’t want to put her off. I sat down and watched. [...]

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step ~ Confucius

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Today we mailed our dossier!!!!! It is currently on it’s way! It wasn’t a single step to get to this point. It was so many visits to pick up so many papers. So many hours spent compiling them and so many days spent waiting. It was and is so worth [...]

Lions and Tigers and Grandchildren, oh my!

Friday, February 15th, 2008

A conversation the other day revealed our girls thoughts on the family they would like to have in the future. I wanted to document it and see how it compares to the reality.
Kimberly wants 3 children, all girls, named Sophie, Rose and Pinky Pie. I am especially excited to meet Pinky Pie, very [...]

Kimberly’s birthmark scar

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Today we took Kimberly into the Dr. to get her stitches removed. This was our first glance at her scar. It is bigger than I imagined it to be. She is fine with it, at least for now, though so that is good. I am a bit nervous how [...]

The gift of Love

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Today I took the girls to visit a rearby nursing home. They made Valentine’s and handed them out to a group. It was so sweet to see them interacting with these precious people. Everyone thought they were cute, and thanked us for taking the time. It really took very little time [...]

Happy Valentine’s Day

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

*Yeah, I learned how to digital scrapbook!!! So cool. I love it.
