Growing older

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

A person is always startled when he hears himself seriously called an old man for the first time. ~Oliver W. Holmes, Sr.
I have never been afraid to age, thinking that it was just the next step, but today I was alarmed by the fact that I am aging. It is so odd that [...]

The School Board

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

After much consideration I have decided to become a member of the Preschool Board. I know this will make some new demands on my time and I know it will stretch me just that much further, but I feel like it is the right thing for our family. The Preschool is so wonderful [...]

Wii have been busy

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

I had been on the lookout for a Wii for Bill for our anniversary. He really has shown great restraint in wanting one. A younger Bill would have been out the first day and would have bought one and every bit that went along with it. Good to know that fatherhood has [...]

3 Cheers for Summer

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Last Friday the girls and I took our first real swim of the year in our pool. Up until then it was just feet in the water until they couldn’t handle it anymore. We got the pool all ready for swimming and today we made it official. The water is a brisk [...]

I’m from Ethiopia too!

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Understanding the adoption of baby brother has given my girls plenty to talk about. Annie and Kimberly often have discussions on how Kimmie was in another ladies tummy but she “popped” out to come home with Mommy and Daddy. With baby brother they know he is in Ethiopia, and that he will have [...]

Happy Fasika

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Today is the Ethiopian equivalent to Easter. I pray that wherever our son is that he is having a good day. I think of him often and wonder what his life is currently like.
Fasika (Easter) is celebrated after 55 days severe Lent fasting (Hudade or Abye Tsome). Orthodox Tewahedo Christians do [...]

Make-up party

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Last night Mimi had her make-up party with friends and family. She had a great time and loved spending time with everyone. She is always such a pleasant child and adores all gifts she receives.

It is so hard to believe that this little girl is three years old. She [...]

Memory makers

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

The other day I was working on some scrapbooking while the kids were up. They wanted to cut and paste paper and asked for pictures to use. I gave them some extra pics and some paper, glue sticks, markers and some space on the table. Here is what they came up with”
Kimberly’s [...]

Annie’s World

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

For a long time there has always been something very unique about Annie. We have always thought that it was just because she was Bill’s biological daughter, as he has many of the same quirks. Quirks like making little noises constantly to her own rhythm, living in her own world most of the [...]

Mimi Turns Three!

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Today Madeline turned three years old. She crawled into our bed sometime in the night and we awoke to her sunshiny face. (This flower bloomed on our rosebush today and Annie said that the bush must really love Mimi. So cute!)
Coming home from vacation we had plenty of [...]

Our precious Mimi turns 3!

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Today we need a parade, we need fireworks, we need all frills you can muster up. My baby is three. I can hardly believe it is true. Just last year I was reflecting on how she was that perfect little bit that made our family complete. She was such a surprise [...]

Our Beach Day

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

On our last day of vacation we went down to the beach. I LOVE the beach and the ocean. I love to look out and wonder over it. I love to take the children there too. As you may already know, Bill doesn’t like sand and so he is fairly comical [...]

Disneyland Day 5

Friday, April 18th, 2008

“Can we go again?” ~ Kimberly
“Can we go again?” ~ Annie
“Can we go again?” ~ Madeline
The girls said this each time we left a ride. We took it as the mark of a good ride. The only 2 rides that got the “no more,” were the Bug Life thing and Mimi was [...]

Disneyland Day 4

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

The day began with a wake up call at 7:30 am. Bill went down to the McDonalds to get the kids some pancakes while I bathed them. This enabled us to get over to Disneyland around 9 am. Bill rushed ahead of us to go wait in the Finding Nemo line, while [...]

Disneyland Day 3

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

We are having a very hard time waking up early. That really is a nice thing since we are on vacation but not a great thing since most rides, Finding Nemo included, do not have huge lines in the early hours. Mainly because most people are sleepyheads like us.
After [...]

Disneyland Day 2

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

We woke up, got showered and dressed and headed over to Disneyland for Breakfast. We ate at the Carnation Cafe. The girls enjoyed mickey mouse mini waffles while Bill and I split the egg breakfast. Then we headed over to meet Ariel. The girls were [...]

Disneyland Day 1

Monday, April 14th, 2008

“Can we see another parade?” ~ Annie
This question was asked by Annie at 9:30 PM after having enjoyed 2 Disneyland parades. Guess she really likes the parades.
We got to Anaheim around three in the afternoon, but could not check into our hotel until four so we went and had lunch/dinner at Mimi’s cafe. [...]

The time of our lives

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

We are off to Disneyland in the morning. The three Princesses are going to have a ball! It really will be so neat to see life through through their eyes in such a magical place. I know they are going to enjoy it.
I am reminded of this post I made about 2 [...]

So cool!

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Kimberly has started using the word cool a lot. I think it is pretty significant because it sounds very grown up to me. She also uses great descriptors like fabulous and wonderful, but cool seems so big kid playground to me.
She is growing up, there is no denying it.

A bullet for your thoughts

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

* I am still in shock that Mimi is going to be three in ten days.
* My girls have big attitudes to and they have to be tamed
* I am no where near ready to leave for vacation in three days!
* I am so excited that we will [...]
