Can’t live with you, can’t live without you!

Kimberly and Madeline have a serious relationship issue. They both have very similar personalities and that makes a lot of strife between them. Some days it would seem that one cannot exist while the other does, at least not harmoniously.
Of course much of this is because they are such strong girls. They rarely fight with Annie, because one really can’t fight with one who won’t fight back.
They have lived together each moment since Madeline’s birth and I am sure this is part of the reason they are so fussy with each other. They know each other’s weakness and often prey on them. They go at each other for the smallest things and can turn nothing into something in a matter of moments. Like most people who fight with one another, they hate the very things that they themselves are guilty of.
As parents it is very difficult to see them fight like they do. I would love for all my Girls to be happy with one another and not antagonize each other. I know this is a possibility and I will continue to work with them on this. I guess that is the crux of having more than one child; sure those other children are there to accompany them, but they are also their to drive them batty. I know I did this to my siblings and they did it to me. Kimberly and Madeline’s relationship is very important to me and I will work to help them see the beauty in not fighting with each other.
I want to note that in this same passion that fuels their animosity there is a deep and wonderful love for each other. When they are loving, they are really caring for each other. When they are fighting, they are at each others throats. That is why the the title of this post is so perfect for them.

And then there are the times when they are so sweet to eachother, even though they fight sometimes too.
I think it is so important to do what you are doing, trying to encourage love between them. I tell our children that they can be built in best friends and they will always be together. Friends come and go but sibblings last forever.
