The younger generation

By sandi | October 11, 2008

It is so interesting how quickly technology changes. I can vividly remember the day my parents got a VCR or the day we finally got a microwave. Those things are second nature to my children, they know no world without them, just as my parents were taught how to use computers by my siblings and myself.

My kids LOVE to text. I recently got a Palm Centro and have been using it to keep track of everything that my Mommy brain can’t keep in. It has a full keyboard and the kids love to write to people. They can attach smileys and sound out words to spell things. It is so neat to see them enjoying this technology. I only just recently learned how to text so I think they are loads ahead of the game. Thankfully I didn’t have to learn how from them. I am pretty sure that will mark an aging moment for me.

They get the biggest kick when someone texts them back! They are working on reading the text and Annie has even caught onto some nuances in language. Aunt Sabrina texted her back once that she “love her thisssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss much” Annie now loves to say it just like that. They also learned what xoxoxo means. My friend, Angela asked if this was my new teaching technique. Sure, I will use anything and everything to teach my children. :) It is something they love and loving something makes learning that much easier.

If you have my cell phone number and feel like texting them they would love to hear from you. If you get a text that is mostly smiley faces and your name, assume it is from Mimi. ;)

How cute Sandi! My kids love Instant Message. If they see their auntie is on they all clamor to write to her. Ginny mostly sends smilies and rainbows and the few words that she can spell like Barbie, I love you etc…LOL

I always text my boys during school, and I know they are going to get their phones taken away one day and I will get called into the principal’s office about it! How on earth did we grow up without all of this cool technology!?!

That’s adorable! I would have never thought of letting kids text message. I distinctly remember getting things like cable, a VCR, a microwave, a computer!! and a DVD player. I remember thinking how fancy all of that was. I even remember our first CD player. ha
