My Daisy Scouts

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Today was the first meeting for the Daisy Scout Troop. I had a wonderful time leading the meeting and interacting with the girls. Annie and Kimberly loved the fact that I was the troop leader and that they finally get to see me teaching. So funny that they haven’t noticed I have been teaching them [...]

Growing Older

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Let me first begin by saying that I realize I am not old. 35 isn’t young but it isn’t old either. However, 35 is oldish and the body certainly isn’t what it used to be. I am growing older, I can’t change it and I am not really ready to be happy about it. When [...]

Doll Quilt Swap Received

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I received my doll quilt in the mail last Monday. Due to the fact that it was a super busy week with arriving home from New York, my Sister’s and Sister in laws birthday, Paul’s adoption hearing, Johnny Appleseed party at Kindergarten, open house at preschool and many other things I haven’t had time to [...]

I know it is confusing

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Back on November 17th, 2008 Paul was declared a Brown for life. When the adoption passed court in Ethiopia we were his legal parents and he had our last name. The only thing that changed on the 23rd was that Paul is now legally named Paul. Before that his name had legally been Teferi William. [...]

We meet again

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Tonight we had the opportunity to see Tsegay and Almaz again. Tsegay and Almaz are the directors of the House of Hope for Children’s Hope International. It was so neat to see them surrounded by all the children they placed into homes. They are traveling to several different cities to visit with families. Lucky us, [...]

Anna Jewel

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

September 20th my beloved Ger passed away. She was an amazing woman. There were so many things I admired about her. She was strong, independent, tolerant, kind but stern, and the biggest heart. This picture was taken of us in March of 2002. I miss her deeply. I will never again hear her say, “Hi [...]

It’s the little things

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

“I got to stand next to a judge today!” ~Annie Annie exclaimed this today after the picture at Paul’s court hearing. She also did a little fist pumping at how cool it was. It made everyone in the courtroom laugh. She is just so precious and life really is all all about the little things.

Paul’s officially a Paul

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Today was Paul’s re-adoption. It went well, there really is nothing to the ceremony. Swearing in and then verifying that all the information our attorney has is correct. Nice and easy, just the way we like it. The Girls took the day off from school and Grammy and Papa came to watch this historic day. [...]

New York City

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

The three days spent in New York City were fast paced and tiring. There was so much to see and do and we tried to consume as much as we could, leaving us exhausted. Walking was the primary means of transportation for us, and boy did we. When we arrived at JFK airport we took [...]

Still kissing

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

18 year ago we first kissed and fell in love! Here we are today on top of the Empire State Building in New York City still in love.

Finally free

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Mr. Paul has been home from Ethiopia 9 months now and we are finally ringworm free. This African form of head ringworm is really hard to kick. Both he and I are no longer on medication for it and we were pronouced clear today! Hip hip hooray!

Trip talk

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

There is so much to be done when planning a trip. If the kids are going with us I have to make sure everything is packed. If they are staying I need to make sure everything is ready for them. I have been running around for a couple of days trying to get everything done. [...]

Pearly Whites

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Today all the Girls had their dental appointment. Hooray for all of them, they don’t have any cavities.

Troop Leader

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

It is official, I am the Daisy Troop Leader for Annie and Kimberly’s troop. While all the other parents want to help out none of them wanted the official responsibility. It doesn’t scare me at all to have to plan two one hour lessons a month so I stepped up. There is a fair amount [...]

Mancala obsessed

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

Several weeks ago I taught the kids how to play Mancala. They have taken to playing it constantly. They are always playing it or asking to play it. I hadn’t played in years and I didn’t have my directions any longer so it was hard to remember all the rules. The games have been taking [...]

Buy Nothing

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

About a month ago Bill and I evaluated our budget. We knew things were out of control, spending wise, but we didn’t know how far they were. We were spending a huge amount of money on fast food and we didn’t like that. We also found that we were buying things that we just wanted [...]

Not close

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

“Mom, I really don’t miss you at all in preschool.” ~ Mimi “Not even a little bit?” ~ Mommy figuring that the fact that Mimi brings it up all the time means she misses me. “No, of course not. Preschool is way more fun than you Mommy.” ~ Mimi And there you have it folks, [...]

School Progress

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Kindergarten is going well for Annie and Kimberly. They are settled into their routine and getting the hang of it. They both love the electives the most. Kimberly’s favorite is art and Annie’s is library. They both are doing well academically and we are working on making sure that they take the work seriously even [...]

No red chair, but it will do

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I wanted to get a picture of Paul today to compare to his referral photo. He sure has grown, changed, matured and looks so much healthier.

Referralversary

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Today marks one year since we saw our son. This is a very special day to my heart. I equate today with his birthdate but I resist calling it that because I feel like it doesn’t give enough tribute to the fact that his life went on before that. But the other side of me [...]
