Sayings
By sandi | January 11, 2013
“MOM, you already told us that!” ~ Annie, Kimberly or Mimi depending on the day or time.
“We already know that, you don’t have to keep saying it.” ~ Annie, Kimberly or Mimi depending on the day or time.
These are generally said to me with a great big eye roll anytime I the kids are whining about something being unfair. I always say, “life is not fair, the sooner you get used to that idea the happier you will be.”
The kids joke around and say that it is my motto. Honestly, it is my motto but I have so many others as well. Do unto others comes to mind. It isn’t that I don’t ever think something is unfair but when I do I try to remind myself of the words I say to my children. They are learning and so am I.
I was thinking about this idea the other day when they were not pleased that I reminded them once again that life would never be fair. I think I need to spend each month with a different motto. Reinforcing it many times during the month and helping myself and my children learn important life lessons.
This month I am going to work hard and fast on gratitude. It is something we can all use more work on. My kids cannot understand the life I had as a child just as much as I cannot understand my Mother’s life as a child. They don’t realize how much hard work and effort Bill and I have put into them living this life. They likely will never be able to understand it, but I want them to appreciate things in their life more. The Girls are getting older quickly and they are wanting a whole lot more in life. Partially our fault for giving them so much but there are people with more who are grateful so I know it is something they can do.
The motto/saying for this month will be:

January 2013 motto
Over the course of the month I plan to talk to them in depth about this one sentence. Hoping that they will dig down and think about all they have.
