As our family grows and matures we are seeing a increase in our food bill. It is a delicate balance between healthy foods and the foods that are not super expensive.

We have never been into eating organic foods. We believe them to be a waste of money and are no different than regular produce, so we save money there. (I am not looking to debate organic food here just talking about food cost. I realize there are more chemicals in other food, I just think the human body is able to process and abort them.) However, all fresh produce is expensive. It is necessary but expensive.

There are only so many hours in the day so I am unable or not willing to spend extra time driving from store to store to get the best of the best of deals. We eat the products that are on sale at the store I am at. If grapes and apples are on sale that week those are the fresh fruits we eat.

One of the things I have decided to do is to find more recipes that cost less than what we normally eat. Tonight I made this meal. Several nights ago I had made homemade chicken soup. I kept 2 cups of the chicken out of the soup knowing I would make this dish. I served this with a can of corn and used a package of chicken gravy instead of soup for the dip. I don’t have an exact calculation but I am sure the dinner was under $10.

The other bonus was that the kids loved it. Paul ate a big spoonful of the chicken mixture as I was making them.
