Gallery Wall

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Ever since I bought this house 10 years ago I have dreamed of a gallery wall going up my staircase. I have always had one reason or another as to why it wasn’t done yet. This year I was able to see it through. It isn’t complete, but neither are my years of photographing the [...]

Beautifying the Place

Sunday, November 13th, 2011

Over the last month we have been working on the house a bit. We had a full patio put on the back with two ceiling fans on it so that next summer it will have more shade and breezes on those days when there is no breeze in sight. The patio looks perfect and people [...]

The Room is Complete

Monday, March 21st, 2011

It is amazing that within nine working days our loft went from a huge open space to a completed room. The change has made a new room for Annie and created space for everyone to have their own room. Before: After: The kids are settling into their bedrooms. It was a long weekend getting all [...]

Textured

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

The texture was put up on the walls today. It was loud and crazy. The room is really coming together quickly. The contractor thinks he may have it all up and ready Friday night.

More Mud

Monday, March 14th, 2011

Not much of a change in the room, just more mud on the walls.

Boxed In

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

The drywall went up and it is easy to see exactly how different the loft looks now. Here is a picture from inside the new room. The photo is taken from the closet.

Electrified

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Day 2 and the electricity was put in. The HVAC guy came buy and said that moving the air 4 feet would be ridiculous so the vent doesn’t need to be moved. (This fact probably only matters to those paying for this since it decreases the price.) Drywall is being hung today.

Things are starting to take shape

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

With only one day of construction in it is amazing to me that we already have a view of what this is going to look like. Frame is up and tomorrow HVAC and electrical come in. The kids love to come home from school and go see what Freddy has done. He is such a [...]

Constructing a new room – Before it all begins

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Here is the space all cleared out. At this point we realize that Annie’s new room will be the biggest of all the kids rooms. (Shh don’t tell Kimmie.) The kids liked tumbling around and hanging out in the open space. Soak it up now because it won’t be there long.

A New Room

Friday, March 4th, 2011

When we decided to grow our family through adoption we always knew that one day we would add a fifth bedroom to our upstairs. That day has finally come. Monday morning construction will begin to create a new room out of our loft. Here is our current loft. I will get pictures as the days [...]

On the plush side

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Today we had the house recarpeted. To say we were excited would be a huge understatement. The carpet is so plush. Totally worth hanging out in the backyard all day. They brought just a little bit for the house. We had berber carpet that was 14 years old, this is a huge improvement. We went [...]

The final product

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Well the sod was delivered last night and the laborers arrived at 9 am to install the pavers and the sod. It looks so terrific. The new! The old The pavers in front of the pool and along the border. More pictures on flickr for you to enjoy!

The future, the past and everything in between

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Today Bill and I went on a very important journey: we set out this morning to find an appropriate preschool for Annie and Kimberly. Since they turn five in late October they are not eligible to enter kindergarten this year. They are easily at a first-grade level academically but emotionally they are four and need [...]

How many Browns does it take to plant flowers?

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Today I set out to plant flowers in the border of what will be the grass and the pool. Sounds easy enough, keep reading to see if it was. I took the 3 ladies to buy the flowers. This was a nice experience and they all picked out some special ones. We bought them and [...]

Making progress

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Today the dump truck arrived at 7 am to drop 16 tons of dirt. He then returned an hour later with 8 tons of granite. The kids were able to see the dump truck dump out the rock and thought it was super cool. The 3 labor guys arrived at 9 and began the demo. [...]

Yard – Remodeled

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Since we had put in the pool last summer our yard pretty much looked like a waste dump. It was not landscaped the first time as half of a yard, it was landscaped to fit the entire yard, and it looked it. Half of the brick border was missing and the ground was still torn [...]

Day 38 Pool Construction

Friday, September 7th, 2007

It is finished!!!!!!!!!!! It is filling up with water as I type this. Apparently you have to brush it down 3 to 4 times per day to make sure it will be nice and smooth. Let me tell you it would have been nice to have a nice cool pool to jump into after scrubbing [...]

Day 37 Pool Construction

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

We passed inspection.

Day 35 Pool Construction

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Today they came out and bonded the ground wires to all the fences. Tomorrow we are up for inspection.

Sad news about the pool

Friday, August 31st, 2007

It did not pass inspection today. Now you may fill the pool with your tears.
