Time Change

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Lately we have been having a very hard time getting our children to go to bed at their original bed time. They were starting with the I need a drink and I want to sleep with this person or that person. It was getting out of hand and we were initially punishing them [...]

2 months

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Pardon me while I weep, two months from today Annie and Kimberly will be kindergarten girls. A short week later Mimi will be a preschool girl.
I know everybody says it goes fast, but really . . . it does.

Splish Splash

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Today we met Erinn and Mikaleigh at the Splash Pad near our house.

If you compare that photograph with this previous one just 4 months ago you will be able to see how big of a growth spurt my little man has taken.
The kids always have such a fun time there and [...]

Shaving some time out

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

I don’t know what it is about this summer but we aren’t finding as much time to relax. It feels like we are always running. We are doing the same activities as last summer, where I felt relaxed and laid back, but I feel like we are stretched thinner. Perhaps it is just [...]

Wedding bells

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Today as my girls were playing I overheard their antics.
Mimi was getting married to the 3 foot tall Elmo stuffed doll we have and Kimberly was her Mother.
Hearing Kimberly telling Mimi that she forgot her husband is hilarious. Mimi then rushes over and drags Elmo by the arm.
She then got [...]

Is that in real life?

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Kimberly really has been trying to figure out reality vs. fiction. She wants to know whether or not things she has heard about or seen are real. It is a bittersweet moment. In one hand I love the fact that she is so interested in understanding the world, in the other it [...]

First day of swim class

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Today was the first day of swim lessons. The Girls were up and dressed in bathing suits at 7 am ready to go. Unfortunately lessons aren’t until 11:30 so we had some time to wait and listen to the ever present, “Mom is it time to go yet?”

When we got to the pool [...]

What’s in a name?

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

“Mom, what is that lady’s name?” ~ Kimberly
“Vanna White” ~ Mommy
“Hannah?” ~ Kimberly
“No Vanna White.” ~ Mommy
“That’s funny that her last name is a color.” ~ Kimberly
I then proceeded to ask Kimberly what her last name was. For some reason it had never dawned on her that our name is a color as well!!! [...]

Feed the Birds

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Today we finally got around to making our bird feeders. We had gone to the park about a month ago to collect pine cones but never had the time to get everything together to do the craft.
We used pine cones, string, peanut butter, and bird seed.

The Girls had a blast making them and [...]

The end of something wonderful

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

All things must come to an end, it is one of the sad facts of life. Today Annie and Kimberly had their last day of preschool. It was such a wonderful year. I am crying as I sit here and type out this entry thinking of all the wonderful experiences my Girls [...]

Strategy

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Today I was teaching the kids how to play Sequence. It was interesting to see their different personalities as they played.
Kimberly was very interested in strategy and got all giddy when she made a good play. She first spent all her energy blocking people, but eventually figured out that when she did that [...]

Sometimes you have to wonder

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

The other day I was washing Kimberly’s hair. She had been rolling in the grass so I expected to be pulling chunks of grass out of her hair but while I was massaging her head I ran across this.

Yes my dear readers that is a cow, the little things in front of the cow [...]

Thank you preschool teachers

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

“Mom, when I grow up I want to be a circus clown!” ~Kimmie
Kimberly said this in the car on the way home from preschool today. Yep, they are studying the circus and she thinks the tricks clowns can do are cool. I am hoping she is still open to other careers. [...]

Gotta Know the Language

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

“How do you say ‘fast’ in your language?” — Kimberly
“Oonsalawntee” — Annie
“Oonsalawntee! Oonsalawntee!” — Kimberly
Overheard from the other room as The Girls were cleaning up the playroom. We also learned that “ahnsalawntee” means “slow.” I, of course, am not sure of the proper spelling of either word.

Beautiful faces

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Each year I take a close-up photo of the kids faces on their birthday’s. It is neat to look at how they change over time. Today I made a collage of all my Girls at four years old. Interesting to see mature and yet immature their faces look.

4 more months

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Today marks four months until all my girls are in school. No more Monday and Friday lazy mornings—Annie and Kimberly will have to be up and ready for school. I am glad that we had this year to get used to getting up and ready three days a week. I know they [...]

Baking day

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

I have been trying to do more baking lately. I made a resolution for myself that I would learn more cooking basics and learn to cook more things.
I also want to make time to learn to cook more. I am the kind of cook who can whip something up out of basics, [...]

Which floor

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

The kids have enjoyed being elevator operators. Each day one child is the button pusher for all elevators we encounter.
Here is Kimberly pushing the 39th floor button. That is right we are all the way up on the 39th floor! We love it.

Mimi has also acquired a new skill—she loves [...]

T minus 4 days and counting

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

“4 days until we blast off” ~ Kimberly
This is what she announced today as she was crossing off the number five and writing a number four on the white board in the kitchen. The kids are so excited for vacation and can’t wait until it is time to blast off.
I had to [...]

What can I do for you?

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Lately our girls have been obsessed with money. They want to earn money to buy things. I don’t want to just give them money to buy the things they desire so I told them that I had three jobs available and that I was willing to pay someone a dollar for each one. [...]
